OOC Example of Gameplay

The pool sits like a gouge in the mountainside. Mists rise from the fetid waters and climb slowly in the air, up the sheer mountain wall and towards the moon. They capture the moonlight, which seems to illuminate the droplets hanging in the air. In this dim light, you can discern the outline of a portal in the rock on the north side of the pool. There is enough shoreline around the black pool to allow you to carefully access the 'portal'.

(Out-Of-Character: Above is an example of game narrative. Actual posts will usually be longer and more in-depth. Here, the original post would have been made by the Keeper, the first two comments by players with characters on the scene, and the third by the Keeper. Out-Of-Character/ Out-Of-Game text should be at the bottom of the post and kept to a bare minuimum. Normally it shouldn't get as long as this!)

Professor Barthes edges carefully around the pool, being sure not to get his loafers wet.

"By Jove! What a stink!" He coughs a little and continues with his thought, "what sort of filth could be accumulating just under the surface of this pit?"

(OOC: does a biology check reveal anything about the water?)

"Move it, doc!" snaps Molly as she shimmies around the professor and makes it to the door with an easy agility and a few loud splashes.

"You're too slow. I wanna see what these cracks are all about."

Barthes and Molly stand together at the portal - and it is very clearly, now, a portal, framed with a strange script.

Barthes notes the preponderance of algae and scums floating on the water's surface, which suggests that it is filled with sewage or other good things for such lower organisms to feed upon. But you're so far from society that it begs the question - Where could sewage or anything like it be coming from? How could a single hole in the rocks be the site of such filthy concentration?

As Molly runs her fingers over the etched characters she realizes she can read some of it! "Speak Friend And Enter," she makes out. "What could that mean?"

(OOC: Barthes' biology succeeded; Molly's roll to read Hyperborean succeeded)
